They use a special head called a scolex to stay in place. This head has hooks or suckers to grab the host's gut. Tapeworms do not have a mouth. Instead, they soak up food through their skin.

A tapeworm's body is made of many segments. These parts are called proglottids. Each proglottid is like a tiny bag of eggs. The worm's neck makes new segments all the time. As they grow, old segments fall off to release eggs.

These worms have complex life cycles. They often move between different hosts. A definitive host is the main animal where the adult lives. An intermediate host is an animal where the young larvae grow. Some worms live in humans if we eat undercooked meat. Some species are very big. The whale tapeworm can grow over 30 meters long!
