Eucestoda are a large group of flatworms. Most people know them as tapeworms.

These worms live inside the bodies of animals. They live in the gut, which is part of the digestive tract.

Tapeworms do not have mouths. They soak up food through their skin. Their bodies are flat and white. Some are very small. Others can grow to be 25 meters long!

A tapeworm has three main parts. First is the scolex, or head. This small head has hooks or suckers. These parts help the worm hold on tight. Next is the neck. The neck makes new body parts. These parts are called proglottids.

The main body is a long chain of these proglottids. This chain is called the strobila. As the segments move down the body, they grow up. They make eggs to help the species live on. Some segments get full of eggs and fall off. They leave the host through feces.

Many different animals can host these worms. Some live in humans, cats, or dogs. Others live in fish or birds. A tapeworm can live for over 20 years.
