Tabby's Star is a very strange star.

It sits in the Cygnus constellation. This star is part of a binary system. This means it has a companion star. That companion is a small red dwarf.

Most stars shine with a steady light. But Tabby's Star is different. It has unusual light fluctuations. This means its brightness changes in odd ways. Sometimes the star dims by as much as 22%.

A planet the size of Jupiter would only block 1% of the light. Because the dips are so big, something much larger must be in the way.

Scientists have many ideas about why this happens. Some thought it was a megastructure. A megastructure is a giant object made by aliens. Most experts think this is not the case. In 2019, researchers suggested a new idea. They think bits of a broken moon might be the cause. These fragments could be orbiting the star. They block the light as they move.
