Long ago, two big groups fought for land. One group ruled Egypt. The other group was the Seleucid Empire in Syria. They fought over a place called Coele-Syria. This land was very important. It helped them trade goods. It also helped them grow food.

There were six wars in total. These wars lasted for many years. Many kings led their armies. Sometimes, kings even married to try and find peace. But the fighting often started again. In one war, the Egyptian king used a new kind of army. He trained many local people to fight for him. This helped him win a big battle at Raphia.

These wars were very hard on both groups. They used up much of their wealth. They also lost many men. Because they were weak, they could not stop new groups. Soon, Rome and Parthia came to take the land. This was a very big change for everyone.
