Sylvia Browne was a famous American writer.

She said she was a psychic medium. A medium is someone who claims to speak with spirits. Browne said she could see angels and heaven. She also said she could talk to a spirit guide named Francine. She appeared on many TV shows like The Montel Williams Show. She also had her own radio show online.

Browne wrote about 40 books. Some of her books were best sellers. Many people followed her work. In 2007, people waited four years for a reading from her. Some people even went on cruises to hear her speak.

Not everyone believed her. Many people were skeptics. A skeptic is someone who doubts if something is true. Critics said her psychic readings were often wrong. They studied her claims about missing people. They found she was often incorrect. One study said she was not mostly right in a single case.

Browne also had legal trouble. In 1992, she pleaded no contest to fraud. This means she faced charges for lying about money in a business deal. She died in 2013 at age 77.
