This money helped them manage their many business deals. The city left behind many beautiful buildings in the area today.

The way the sultanate worked was through trade and strong leadership. Ships from many different places traveled to its ports. These ships brought goods like silk and gold. The people in Mogadishu were skilled at many handicrafts. They lived by trading these items with people from far away. Some travelers said the city was very noble and beautiful.

The city was a busy place where many cultures met. This helped the sultanate grow into a very wealthy center.

History tells us about the people who led this land. Abubakr bin Fakhr ad-Din was the first Sultan. He started the Fakhr al-Din dynasty to rule the state. This ruling family stayed in power for a long time. They ruled until the late 1500s or the start of the 1600s. After that, the Muzaffar dynasty took over the leadership.

Scholars have studied many different ideas about how the city began. Some thought it was founded by foreign families. However, most experts now say it was a Somali city.

Many famous people wrote about the sultanate in the past. The traveler Ibn Battuta visited in the 1300s. He said the Sultan was of Barbara origin. This was a term used for the Somali people.

He also noted that the Sultan spoke Arabic and Maqdishi. Another famous man, Marco Polo, wrote about the area too. He mentioned that the Great Khan of China sent envoys there. These messengers wanted to talk about trade and strange stories. They even brought back a feather from a giant bird.

Learning about Mogadishu helps us see how connected the world was. Even hundreds of years ago, people traveled huge distances to trade. The sultanate was a bridge between different lands and cultures. Some people think the name Madagascar comes from Mogadishu. This shows how much the name was known in other places.
