It is a time to celebrate the harvest. It also remembers the time the Israelites traveled in the desert.

During the holiday, people eat meals in a sukkah. A sukkah is a temporary hut. It must have walls to block the wind. The roof must be made of organic material. This is called s'chach. It can be made of palm leaves or other plants.

Many people even sleep in the sukkah if the weather is good.

People also use four special plants. These are called the Four Species.

People hold these plants together. They shake them in different directions.

Sukkot is also a time to welcome guests. Some people invite special guests into their sukkah. These guests represent famous leaders from the past. This makes the holiday a time for hospitality and joy.
