Different workers have special jobs. A quarryman cuts large blocks of rock from the ground.

Next, a sawyer mason uses saws to cut those blocks. They often use tools coated in diamond to cut through the hard stone.

A banker mason works in a shop. They use tools to shape stones for a building's design. Then, a fixer mason takes the stones to the job site. They use lifting tools and mortar to set them in place.

Some masons are artists. Carver masons use their skills to make beautiful shapes. They might carve animals or plants into the stone.

Stone is very strong. It can hold a lot of weight. It also uses less power to make than concrete. This helps the Earth by letting out less carbon dioxide. Modern masons now use computers to help design complex stone shapes.
