Many people feel pride when they see it.

Building such a huge statue was a very big job. First, a group asked farmers to donate old iron tools.

By 2016, they collected 135 metric tonnes of scrap iron. They used 109 tonnes of that iron for the foundation. The inside is made of concrete and lots of steel. The outside is covered in bronze plates. These plates were made in a foundry in China. They were sent over the sea to India. Then, workers put them all together.

This project began many years ago. Narendra Modi announced the idea in 2010. He was the Chief Minister of Gujarat at that time. Construction started in October 2013. An Indian company called Larsen & Toubro did the building work. The statue was finished in mid-October 2018.

It was opened on October 31, 2018. This was the 143rd birthday of Sardar Patel.

There are many interesting facts about the design. The height of 182 meters was chosen for a special reason. It matches the number of seats in the Gujarat Legislative Assembly. The statue is very tall and thin. To keep it steady, engineers used two large weights called tuned mass dampers. These help it stay still during wind or earthquakes. The statue can handle winds up to 180 km/h. It can also stand through earthquakes of 6.5 on the Richter scale. This makes it a great feat of engineering.

Visitors can explore different parts of the monument. There are five zones in the statue. Some zones have a museum and a memorial garden.
