The city is a very important place for politics in Gujarat. It is also home to the Akshardham temple. You can find the Indroda Dinosaur and Fossil Park here too.

Planning this city was a special task. Two Indian town planners designed it in the 1960s. Their names were Prakash M. Apte and H. K. Mewada. Mewada studied at Cornell University. They wanted the city to be a purely Indian project. This was important because Gujarat is the birthplace of Mahatma Gandhi. The name Gandhinagar actually means "Gandhi's city."
