Dwarka is a very important religious place for Hindus. It is known as one of the seven most ancient religious cities in India. The name Dwarka actually means gateway.

This temple is dedicated to Krishna and has five stories. It is built over 72 pillars and has a very large flag on top. The temple is part of a group of four sacred sites called the Chardham. These sites were founded by Adi Shankaracharya at the four corners of the country. Other important places include the Rukmini Devi Temple and the Gomti Ghat.

Archaeologists have found many things under the water and on the land. They found old stone anchors and walls from submerged settlements. These findings suggest Dwarka was a busy port a long time ago. Some evidence shows the area may have been inhabited as far back as the 2nd millennium BCE. Coastal erosion might have been the reason the ancient port was destroyed.

Dwarka has a hot and dry climate.

The rainy season is very short and lasts about 16 days. Most of the rain falls between June and September. The amount of rain can change a lot from year to year. In 2011, the town had a population of 38,873 people. Many people work in tourism because so many pilgrims visit. The town also makes things like salt, oilseeds, and ghee. Some power is also made nearby using a large wind farm.

There are new ways to explore the area today. A bridge called the Sudama Setu connects the mainland to Panchkui island.
