A sport bike is a special kind of motorcycle. It is built for speed, quick turns, and strong braking. These bikes are often used on paved race tracks or smooth roads.

To get the best performance, designers focus on how the bike moves. This means they might trade away comfort or fuel economy. They might also use more noise to get more power. A sport bike is all about the thrill of riding fast.

How does a sport bike work so well? It uses many smart design choices to stay fast and steady. Most have fairings, which are smooth covers that help wind slide past the rider.

This helps the bike move through the air with less drag. The rider sits in a forward position with low handlebars. This puts the rider's weight over the tank for better control. Large, wide tires help the bike lean deep into corners. Strong brakes with large discs allow the bike to stop very quickly.

People have been making these bikes for a long time. In 1959, Soichiro Honda wrote that speed and thrill were essential.

A big change happened in 1969 with the Honda CB750. This bike brought more power and speed to many regular people. In the 1970s, engines called inline fours became very popular. These engines helped improve braking and suspension too. By the 1980s, sport bikes looked almost like real racing motorcycles. Since the 1990s, new styles like naked bikes have appeared.

Today, riders can choose from many different classes of bikes. Lightweight bikes are often for beginners or entry-level riders. Middleweight bikes are mid-sized and sometimes race in special championships.

The largest and fastest are called superbikes or heavyweights. Some people even call the biggest ones hyperbikes. In 2002, India had about 37 million two-wheelers. However, in 2008, there were only about 3,000 motorcycles there with large engines. This shows how different engine sizes are used around the world.

Sport bikes connect to many things you might already know. Some are made to be race replicas. This means they look and act like the bikes used in professional racing.

Other bikes, called sport touring models, are more relaxed for long trips. They can carry more things and are more comfortable. You might also see naked bikes, which have less bodywork. These bikes let the rider sit more upright. Whether they are for racing or traveling, these bikes are built for excitement.
