Many groups lived in this area through time. Some were the Himyarites. Others were from the Kingdom of Aksum. Later, Persian forces arrived by sea. In the year 628, the region became part of Islam. People in South Arabia have unique ways of speaking. Some old languages are gone. Other South Arabian languages are still used today. They are part of the Semitic language family.
