Its people were known as the Sabaeans. They lived there a very long time ago. They were famous for trading spices. They sold things like frankincense and myrrh. These were sweet smells used in many lands.

For a long time, leaders used a special title. They called themselves Mukarrib. This meant they led many different tribes. One leader named Karib'il Watar was very strong. He grew the land to be very big.

Later, the leaders used the title king instead. The kingdom grew smaller as other groups rose up.

Sheba had a capital city named Marib.

The Sabaeans had their own way of writing. They carved many words into stone. This helps us learn their history today. After many years of change, the kingdom ended around 275 CE. A group called the Himyarites took over the land.
