In some places, sons have high social status. This happened in old farming societies. Men were often physically stronger. They could do farm work well. In some cultures, sons get more than daughters. This is called patrilineal. It means sons inherit a family estate first. In old Bible times, the first son got the most goods. In Japan, some rules suggest parents live with their eldest son.

In some religions, the term "Son" is special. Christians call Jesus the Son of God. They see him as the human form of God.
