A firstborn is the first child in a family.

In the past, being the firstborn was very important. In some places, the first child gets the parents' property. This is called primogeniture. In Judaism, the firstborn is called a bechor.

Alfred Adler was a doctor who studied birth order. He said it can change a person. He thought firstborns feel "dethroned" when a new baby comes. This means they lose their special spot. Parents may give the first child more care. This happens because the parents are new to raising kids.

Some studies show firstborns have strong traits. They may be leaders or very creative. Many U.S. presidents were firstborns. Many other leaders were firstborns too. One study says people like to hang out with others in the same birth order.

Not all experts agree with these ideas. Some big studies show birth order has almost no effect. People have even called these ideas a "zombie theory." This means the ideas stay even if they are not proven.
