This article covers sensitive topics: evolution. Parents can manage visibility in Parental Controls.

How do groups of people change over time? This is a big question. Some thinkers called this sociocultural evolution.

Auguste Comte

In the 1800s, many people had new ideas. They thought all human groups followed one path. They believed groups moved through stages. Some said people went from savagery to barbarism. Then they reached civilization.

These ideas were often used to treat people unfairly. Some used them to justify slavery. Others used them to justify colonialism. These were ways to take land and power from others. This caused much harm.

Later, thinkers had different views. Talcott Parsons studied how social systems work. Immanuel Wallerstein looked at world systems. Many people now study how each group is special. They do not think everyone follows one single path.

Herbert Spencer

Today, experts like archaeologists study these changes. They look at how different cultures grow. They do not see one way as better. They just see how things are different. It is a way to learn our history.
