Sociological theory uses science to study society. It tries to be fair and look at facts. Some people use social theory instead. Social theory focuses more on ideas and opinions about modern life.

There are many ways to look at society. One way is called functionalism. This idea says society is like a living body. Each part has a special job to do. This helps the whole group work well.

Another way is called conflict theory. This idea looks at why people fight. It says fights happen when things are not fair. Some people have more power or money than others. This can lead to big changes in the world.

A third way is symbolic interactionism. This idea looks at small, daily actions. It says we make our world by talking and acting together. Society is built by how we treat each other every day.
