It has very large hind feet. These feet help it walk on snow. They stop the hare from sinking.

Thick fur on the soles keeps its feet warm.

This hare uses camouflage to hide. Camouflage is a way to blend in. Its fur is brown in the summer. It turns white in the winter.

This helps it hide from predators. One major predator is the Canada lynx. The hare and the lynx live in a cycle. This means their numbers go up and down together.

Snowshoe hares are most active at night. They do not hibernate. In summer, they eat grass and leaves.

In winter, they eat twigs and bark. They can live in many places. These include forests and wetlands. They like places with thick brush. This brush gives them a place to hide.
