It has a thick coat of fur. This fur is the best insulation of any mammal. This means it is very good at keeping heat in. In winter, the fur is long and thick. In summer, the fur is short.

Some foxes have white fur in winter. This helps them hide in the snow. Other foxes are a blue morph. This means they are black, brown, or grey in summer. In winter, they turn a lighter color.

To stay warm, the fox has a compact body. It has short legs and small ears. This shape helps it keep heat inside. It also has fur on the bottom of its feet.
