The venom can cause redness, swelling, and pain. It can also cause vomiting or blurred vision. Some venom attacks the nervous system. This is the part of the body that sends signals. This can make it hard to breathe or speak. Other venom can cause necrosis. This is when body parts, like skin or muscle, die.

Most bites happen on the hands, arms, or legs. Snakes bite to hunt or to protect themselves. Many people get bitten while working outside. To stay safe, do not handle snakes. You can also wear strong shoes. If a bite happens, wash it with soap and water. Keep the bitten part still. Do not try to suck out the venom. Doctors use antivenom to help. Antivenom is a medicine that fights the venom. It can save lives, but it can be hard to find in some places.
