Chinese astronomers saw this bright light. They called it a guest star. It was so bright that people could see it during the day. It stayed visible for 642 days.

The explosion left behind a cloud of debris. We call this cloud the Crab Nebula. It is located near the star Zeta Tauri.

Inside the nebula is a pulsar. A pulsar is a very fast, spinning star.

For a long time, people did not know the cloud was an explosion. In 1758, a man named Charles Messier saw it. He thought it was a comet. He made a list of objects to help him avoid mistakes. The nebula was the first item on his list.

Later, scientists studied the cloud. They saw the parts were moving away from the center. This showed it was an explosion. Edwin Hubble used this to find the right date. He linked the cloud to the guest star from 1054. By 1942, scientists were sure of the link.
