It was in the Cassiopeia constellation. Many people saw it with their own eyes. This event was a supernova. A supernova is a massive explosion of a star.

This star was very bright. By November 11, it was brighter than Jupiter. It stayed visible for about two years. A scientist named Tycho Brahe studied it closely. His work helped people realize that the stars can change. Before this, many thought the heavens never changed.

Scientists now know it was a Type Ia supernova. This happens when a white dwarf star pulls matter from a neighbor star. Eventually, the white dwarf explodes.

Today, we see the remains of that explosion. We call this a supernova remnant. It is a cloud of gas and dust. It is also known as 3C 10. Scientists found it using radio waves first. They later saw it with light telescopes. The remnant is still spreading out through space.
