This article covers sensitive topics: religion. Parents can manage visibility in Parental Controls.

The word skandha means a heap or a collection. In Buddhism, this idea helps explain how a person works. Many thinkers use five parts to show this. These parts are called the five aggregates.

The first part is form. This is the physical body. It is made of earth, water, fire, and wind. The second part is sensation. These are feelings like pleasure or pain. The third part is perception. This is how we recognize things, like a color.

The fourth part is mental formations. These are the activities in our minds. They can lead us to act. The fifth part is consciousness. This is the way we know things. It is our awareness of the world.

Some traditions say these five parts do not make a permanent self. They believe these parts are always changing. This can lead to unease or suffering. People try to find peace by letting go of these parts. This idea is different from other faiths. Some faiths believe in an eternal soul. Buddhism looks at the parts instead.
