This has happened for a long time. In the 1700s, many children lost a parent to sickness. In the 1800s, many boys in China lost a parent by age 15. In the past, many people remarried quickly.

Today, many families live this way. Most single-parent homes are led by a mother. In the United States, 30% of homes with children have one parent. In some places like Sweden, many children live in a shared arrangement. This means they spend equal time with both parents. This can help them feel well.
