Simon Kuznets was a famous economist. He was born in 1901 in the Russian Empire. He studied many subjects like math and history. Later, his family moved to the United States.

Kuznets worked with big numbers to study money. He helped create a way to measure a nation's wealth. This is called gross domestic product, or GDP. GDP tracks all the things a country makes.

He also studied how wealth changes over time. He found that some economic cycles last 15 to 25 years. People call these the Kuznets cycles. He also studied how income is shared among people. He thought inequality might change as a country grows.

During a big war, he helped plan for production. After the war, he helped many other countries. He advised nations like China, Japan, and India. These countries built systems to track their money. In 1971, he won a Nobel Prize. This is a very big honor for scientists and thinkers.
