Shower gel is a liquid used to wash your body.

It is often called body wash. This product is different from bar soap. It does not use a process called saponification. Instead, it uses cleansers called surfactants. These can come from plants or petroleum. Surfactants help wash away oily dirt.

Shower gels can feel soft on your skin. They often have a lower pH than soap. This might make them feel less drying. Some people say they do not feel as squeaky clean. Many gels have many scents. Some smell like flowers or fruit. Others might smell like cookies or cotton candy.

Companies make many types of shower gel. Some are made for men. These may use menthol to feel cool on the skin. Some are made for children. These bottles often show fun movie characters. Many brands also change their recipes. They want to be more eco-friendly. For example, they now use better packaging. They also stopped using microbeads. These were tiny plastic spheres. They could hurt the ocean and animals. Now, many makers focus on cleaner ways to wash.
