This city is known today as Daulatabad in Maharashtra. At its strongest, their kingdom covered a huge area. It reached from the Narmada river in the north to the Tungabhadra river in the south. This land included parts of modern Maharashtra, Karnataka, and Madhya Pradesh.

For many years, the Seuna rulers were not independent. They served as feudatories to the Western Chalukyas. A feudatory is a leader who rules a territory for a larger power. This changed around the middle of the 12th century. A king named Bhillama V decided to declare independence. He chose to rule his own land without the Chalukyas. This move helped the dynasty grow into a sovereign power. They became the masters of their own destiny in the Deccan region.

The history of these rulers is filled with interesting stories. The dynasty claimed they were descendants of a hero named Yadu.

Some legends say their ancestors lived in a place called Dvaraka. However, most historians find no evidence of this connection. The dynasty likely emerged from a Kannada-speaking background.

Many of their early kings had names from the Kannada language. They also married into other famous royal families in Karnataka.

We know much about them through old writings called inscriptions. For a long time, they wrote in Kannada and Sanskrit.

Later, the Marathi language began to appear more often. By the end of their rule, Marathi became a main language for their records. This change helped the kings connect with the people they ruled. About five hundred of these ancient inscriptions have been found by researchers today.

The dynasty reached its highest point under King Simhana II.

They continued to flourish for a long time after that. However, their rule eventually came to an end in the early 14th century. In 1308, the Khalji dynasty from the Delhi Sultanate took over their lands.
