Seti I had a very big job to do. After a time of social change, he wanted to bring order back to Egypt. He worked to make sure Egypt was strong and in control. This meant he had to protect his lands from neighbors. He focused on keeping control over places like Canaan and Syria. The Hittite state was a strong group that pressured Egypt. Seti used his energy to face these challenges. He led his armies to win back lands that were disputed.

Seti was a leader who led from the front. In his first year, he marched his army along the "Horus Military road." This was a path of forts along the coast of the Sinai peninsula. He fought against groups called the Shasu and the Apirus. He also led his men into Lebanon to collect cedar wood.

One of his greatest wins was at the town of Kadesh. He captured Kadesh and the land of Amurru from the Hittite Empire. He even went into the city with his son, Ramesses II. They put up a victory stone to show their success.

Seti I was also a builder of huge things. He started a beautiful temple made of white limestone at Abydos.

He also ordered workers to open new rock quarries at Aswan. They used these to make giant statues and obelisks. He even made great barges to carry these heavy stones. Many of these projects were so big that they were not finished before he died. His son, Ramesses II, had to finish many of them. This included parts of the Great Hypostyle Hall at Karnak.

Historians still study how long Seti I ruled. Some old records said he ruled for 55 years. However, most experts think he ruled for about 10 or 11 years. They look at things like wine jars found in his tomb.

These jars suggest he might have ruled for only 8 or 9 years. His tomb in the Valley of the Kings is also very special. The ceiling of his burial chamber shows stars and constellations.
