Hatshepsut was a very important leader in ancient Egypt. She belonged to the Eighteenth Dynasty. She was the daughter of Thutmose I and Queen Ahmose.

Hatshepsut's journey to power began in a special way. When her husband Thutmose II died, her stepson Thutmose III was too young to rule. He was only two years old. Hatshepsut first served as a regent to look after him. A regent is someone who manages the throne for a child. Later, by the seventh year of his reign, she became a pharaoh herself. She ruled as a co-ruler alongside Thutmose III.

To show she was a strong leader, Hatshepsut used many symbols. Most pharaohs were men, so she took on male roles. Her statues often showed her with masculine traits. She wore the traditional clothes of a pharaoh. This included a special head cloth and a kilt. She even wore a false beard in her images.

Later in history, some leaders tried to erase her name. They broke her statues and changed her monuments. They wanted to pretend she was not a pharaoh. However, we still know about her great work today.
