Most of the time, they walk on all four legs. They can also make big leaps through the air. Sometimes they even hop on two legs to climb things. They can jump forward or even jump while going down a slope. Their tails are very long and are usually longer than their bodies.

Scientists have spent a long time studying these monkeys. For a long time, people thought there was only one type called Semnopithecus entellus. However, things changed around the year 2001. Researchers began to recognize many more types of langurs. By 2005, some books listed seven different species. Now, there are eight recognized species in this group. This includes the Nepal gray langur and the Kashmir gray langur.

In the north, their tails loop toward their heads when they walk. In the south, their tails make a "U" or "S" shape. Males are always larger than the females. The heaviest langur ever found was a male Nepal gray langur. They mostly eat plants like leaves, fruits, and seeds. They even eat things like spider webs and insect larvae.

Langurs are very social animals that live in groups.

Some groups have just one male and several females. Other groups have many males of all different ages. Females in a group are often related to each other. They spend a lot of time grooming one another to stay friendly.
