This era lasted from about 1100 CE to 1628 CE. It was a time of strong, central rule. One leader held almost all the power. This ruler was called the Saudeleur. He lived in a famous place called Nan Madol.

This city was a very important center for the whole region. The Saudeleur dynasty changed how people lived together on the island. It created a system that lasted for many centuries.

Life under the Saudeleur followed a strict set of rules. The ruler owned all the land and everything on it. He would lease the land to landlords. These landlords then oversaw the common people. The commoners had to give gifts, called tribute, to the ruler. During times of plenty, they gave lots of breadfruit. In times of scarcity, they gave yams or taro instead. Over time, these demands became much harder. People had to work very hard and often lacked enough food.

Legends tell a wonderful story about how this dynasty began. Two brothers named Olisihpa and Olosohpa arrived in a large canoe. They were said to be much taller than the local people. They came to build an altar for a god of agriculture. They eventually built their altar at the great site of Nan Madol. Legend says a flying dragon helped them move huge stones. When Olisihpa died, Olosohpa became the first Saudeleur ruler. He started a long line of many leaders.

The island was divided into three main areas during this time. These areas were Malenkopwale in the east, Kohpwahleng in the west, and Pwahpwahlik in the north. Each area had its own smaller parts. At the capital of Nan Madol, there were many special jobs. Some people were food preparers or guards. The rulers also used religion to stay in power. They made offerings to the Thunder God, Nahn Sapwe. They even used special foods like turtles and dogs in their rituals.

Eventually, the way of life changed because the people were unhappy. The Saudeleur rulers became very strict and sometimes quite cruel. This led to a famous invasion by a leader named Isokelekel. He came from the island of Kosrae with a large group of people. Isokelekel helped the local people fight against the old system. He took over the seat of power at Nan Madol. This ended the Saudeleur dynasty and started a new way of governing. Today, many local traditions still come from this long history.
