These fish eat many different things. Some are herbivores. These fish eat algae, which is a type of sea plant. Other fish are carnivores. They eat shrimp or tiny creatures called plankton.

Fish live in many places. Some live near the shore. Others live in the deep sea where it is dark. Some live in estuaries. An estuary is where rivers and the ocean meet.

People use fish for food and for pets. Many people keep saltwater fish in tanks. This is a big business in the United States. People also farm fish in the water. This is called aquaculture.

But saltwater fish face many threats. Overfishing happens when people catch too many fish. This makes it hard for fish to grow their numbers back. People also cause pollution. This can hurt the homes where fish live.
