He was an actor, a director, and a writer of plays. Throughout his long career, he wrote 115 different plays for the stage. Some of his stories were light comedies that made people laugh. Other stories were historical dramas about the past. He was also a very popular actor in the theater. He was known for having a witty and charming personality on stage. For example, he wrote many parts for the singer Yvonne Printemps. He would create musical comedies or straight comedies just for her. He also liked to act in the plays he wrote himself. If a leading man became ill, Guitry would sometimes take over the role. This allowed him to be the best interpreter of his own work. He was a true actor-author who managed many parts of a show.

His journey in the arts began when he was very young. He was born in Saint Petersburg, Russia, in 1885. His father, Lucien Guitry, was one of the most famous actors in France. Because of this, Sacha made his stage debut at only five years old. He went to many different schools before leaving formal education at age sixteen. After that, he started writing his own small musical pieces. In 1902, he premiered his first play called Le Page. He eventually joined his father's famous acting company.

Guitry's career had many big moments and important dates. In 1915, he made his very first short film. He did not like silent films much because he loved spoken words. However, he later embraced cinema and made five films in 1936 alone. In 1925, he created a popular play called Mozart. This play featured Yvonne Printemps playing the young composer in a wig and buckled shoes. In 1931, he was awarded the Legion of Honour for his work. He even performed in London and the United States.

Later in his life, Guitry faced some very difficult and serious times. During the Second World War, he continued to work while the Germans occupied France. This led to accusations that he was collaborating with the enemy. He was arrested by a militia in 1944 and held in a camp. The criminal charges against him were eventually dropped because there was no evidence. This experience was very hard for him and made him feel disillusioned. Even so, many people still held him in high regard. When he died in Paris in 1957, 12,000 people walked past his coffin.
