Guitry grew up in a family of actors. His father, Lucien Guitry, was a great star. Sacha started acting when he was only five years old.

He was known for his witty plays. Some were light comedies. Others were historical dramas. He also made many films. At first, he did not like silent movies. He thought movies needed spoken words to be good. Later, he loved the cinema. In 1936, he made five films in one year.

During the Second World War, Guitry faced hard times. He worked while the Germans were in France. Some people accused him of helping the enemy. He was arrested after the war ended. The charges were later dropped. This time in his life was very difficult for him. Still, people loved his art. When he died in 1957, 12,000 people came to honor him in Paris.
