Rudolf Leuckart was a famous German scientist. He studied many different living things. People call him the "father of parasitology." Parasitology is the study of parasites. Parasites are tiny creatures that live on or inside other animals.

Leuckart did great work with worms. He studied how some worms live in pigs and humans. This work helped create laws to inspect meat. These laws keep people safe from getting sick. He also found out which worms live in cattle.

He was also an expert on insects. He studied how bees grow and how insect eggs work. He looked at how many small parts make up one body. This is called polymorphism.

Leuckart was a helpful teacher too. He made over one hundred large wall charts. These charts showed animals to help students learn. Today, scientists still give an award in his name. Even a lizard in Australia is named after him.
