Some tiny life forms live inside fish. We call them Ichthyosporea. They mostly act as parasites. A parasite is a living thing that lives on or in a host.

These tiny things look like small spheres or ovals. They often hold spores inside them. For a long time, people were not sure what they were. Some thought they were fungi. Others thought they were algae.

Now, we know more. They sit in the middle of a family tree. This group is called Opisthokonta. In this group, they are close to both animals and fungi.

Scientists use a name called Mesomycetozoea to describe them. This name shows where they fit on the tree of life. The name means they are in the middle. They sit between fungi and animals.

Some members of this group do not live in fish. One type can live in birds. It can even live in humans. Scientists also look at old fossils to study them. They use X-rays to see tiny parts of these fossils. This helps them learn how life grew complicated.
