Rowing is a fast sport. People race boats using long oars.

In the UK, people call the oars blades. The oars are tied to the boat with rowlocks. This is not like paddling. In paddling, the paddle is not tied to the boat.

There are two main ways to row. In sculling, each person holds two oars. One oar is in each hand. In sweeping, each person holds one oar. They use both hands for that oar.

Boats can be small or large. A single scull has one person. An eight has eight rowers. A coxswain, a person who helps steer, can also be in the boat.
