Writing a book for Caro is a very long job. He uses a method of exhaustive research to find the truth. This means he looks at many facts and talks to many people. For his book about Robert Moses, he did 522 interviews. He even spoke with Moses himself several times. His wife, Ina, helped him as a research assistant. She even sold their family home so he could finish his work. He believes history must be told like a great story to be good.
