This happens when thin mucus flows from the nose. Many things can cause this. You might have a cold or the flu. These germs make your nose make extra mucus. This helps keep the germs out of your lungs.

Allergies can also cause it. This happens when things like pollen or dust touch your nose. Your body reacts by making more liquid. Cold weather can cause it, too. Your nose makes more mucus to keep the air warm. When you breathe out, warm air hits the cold air. This makes water build up in your nose. Even crying can cause a runny nose. This is because tears drain into your nose through tiny tubes. Most of the time, it goes away on its own. You can use steam from a hot shower to help. If it lasts more than 10 days, see a doctor. Sometimes, a person may have a sinus infection. This happens if the nasal parts stay blocked for too long.
