This article covers sensitive topics: politics. Parents can manage visibility in Parental Controls.

A regulatory agency is a special group from the government. These groups have the power to watch over certain parts of life. They act as experts in specific areas. Their main job is to make sure things are safe and fair for everyone. They help set high standards for many different industries. This helps protect people in places where there is not much competition.

These agencies work in a very organized way. First, they create and review rules for businesses to follow. They often require companies to get a license before they can start working. This license lists the exact conditions a company must obey. The agency then monitors how these companies act every day. They might check reports or perform investigations to see if rules are being met.

Many different countries use these agencies to keep order. In the United States, the Food and Drug Administration checks food and medicine. The United Kingdom has the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency for similar tasks. In India, the Telecom Regulatory Authority manages phone services. Other groups, like the Office of Gas and Electricity Markets, handle energy. These agencies help manage complex jobs without too much political interference.

Sometimes, an agency must take action if a company breaks the rules. They can ask leaders to explain why they did something wrong. An agency might also issue a fine, which is a penalty of money. In serious cases, they can take away a company's license to operate. They can even take a company to court. Some agencies also set prices for public services like gas or electricity.

Regulatory agencies cover a huge range of topics in our world. They watch over things like advertising, banks, and the environment. They also monitor food safety, cyber-security, and even sports. Some groups look after nuclear safety or how ships pollute the ocean. Even things like noise and pollution are part of their work. By doing these jobs, they help keep our modern society running smoothly.
