A ministry of justice is a special part of a government. Its main job is to run a country's justice system. This agency helps make sure laws are followed and order is kept.

Many different names are used for these groups. Some call them a department of justice. Others call them a ministry of justice. They are very important for how a nation works every day.

Different leaders run these important offices. Most are led by a minister of justice. In a few places, the leader is called a minister for justice. Some countries use the title secretary of justice instead. In the United States, the leader is called the attorney general.

These leaders help guide the many workers in their departments.

These groups have many big jobs to do. They often organize the entire legal system. They might oversee public prosecutors or national investigators. For example, the FBI is an investigative agency in the United States.

Some ministries also help with elections or the police. They might also manage immigration and citizenship services. Some even work on law reform to change old rules.

Not every country organizes its government the same way. Some nations keep certain jobs separate. For instance, the prison system might be its own group. This group is sometimes called Corrective Services. Some countries also keep the people who prosecute crimes in a different office.

This helps divide the work between different leaders.

Some places do not have a ministry of justice at all. Monaco uses a group called the Directorate of Judicial Services. This group is led by a Secretary of Justice. Vatican City is also different.

It does not have a ministry of justice either. Instead, the Vatican has a legal office inside its legislative body. This body is called the Governorate of Vatican City State. It is led by a President of the Governorate.
