Rebekah Brooks is a very important leader in the British news world. She has held many top jobs at famous newspapers.

She was born on May 27, 1968, in a place called Warrington. As a young girl, she decided she wanted to be a journalist. She even helped out at a local newspaper by making tea. This early interest led her to a very big career. Today, she is the chief executive officer, or CEO, of News UK. This means she is the top boss for that large company.

Her career moved through many different news offices. She started as a secretary at the News of the World in 1989. Later, she became a writer and then a deputy editor. In 2000, she became the editor of that paper. This made her the youngest editor of a national British newspaper.

She also became the first female editor of The Sun in 2003. After that, she became the CEO of News International in 2009. She eventually returned to a leadership role at News UK in 2015.

Brooks's career faced a very difficult time during a phone hacking scandal. This was a situation where people at her newspaper did wrong things. They intercepted private mobile phone messages to get news stories.

This included listening to the voicemails of celebrities and politicians. It even involved the messages of a missing schoolgirl named Milly Dowler. This news made many people very angry. They felt the newspaper had hurt many people. Because of this, Brooks resigned from her job in July 2011.

There was a big legal process to find out what happened. Brooks went to a criminal trial at the Old Bailey in 2014. A jury listened to the facts about the scandal. They looked at charges like conspiracy to hack voicemails. They also looked at charges about paying public officials.

In the end, the jury found her not guilty of all those charges. This meant the law decided she was not responsible for those specific crimes. She had previously said she felt sorry for the hurt caused by the news.

Many people know Brooks because of her connection to big media families. She has worked closely with Rupert Murdoch. He is the founder of News Corp and Fox News.

Her life has also included interesting personal stories. She was married to actor Ross Kemp in 2002. They later divorced in 2009. She then married Charlie Brooks, who was a racehorse trainer.

Her life shows how much power and responsibility comes with leading big news companies.
