Because he owns so many things, he has a lot of influence. Some people call him an oligarch due to this power. This means he has a huge amount of wealth and control. He has shaped how many people see the world through his news.

Murdoch grew his business by buying other companies one by one.

First, he ran a small newspaper in Australia called The News. He then bought many more papers in Australia and New Zealand. In 1969, he began buying newspapers in the United Kingdom. He bought The Sun and the News of the World. Later, he moved to New York City in 1974. He wanted to reach more people in the United States. He eventually bought the Wall Street Journal in 2007.

His journey started in Melbourne, Australia, where he was born in 1931.

His father, Keith Murdoch, was also a newspaper owner. Rupert studied politics and economics at Oxford University in England. After his father died in 1952, Rupert took over the family business. He was only 21 years old at that time. He worked hard to make the small Adelaide paper a success. This was the start of his global media empire.

Murdoch has reached many big milestones throughout his long career.

Many of his news channels have been accused of having a political bias. This means they might favor one side of an argument. In 2011, his companies faced investigations over phone hacking. In September 2023, Murdoch announced he was stepping down from his top roles. His son, Lachlan, will now lead the family companies. This change marks a new chapter for his huge media world.
