He is often called the "Christ of Anarchy" because of his impact on society. His life was marked by a move from crime to political activism. He eventually became a symbol for many people in France. Some saw him as a criminal, while others saw him as a hero. His actions helped start a period called the Era of Attentats. This was a wave of attacks that lasted from 1892 to 1894.

Ravachol's early life was very difficult and filled with struggle. He was born in 1859 in Saint-Chamond, France. His father left the family, leaving his mother to work very hard. As a child, Ravachol had to beg for money to help his family. He left school at age eleven because of bullying. He worked many hard jobs like a shepherd and a miner. He even played the accordion at dances to earn extra money.

As he grew up, Ravachol began to follow anarchist ideas. He attended public readings and studied different political views. He became very angry with how the government treated people. In 1891, a group of anarchists was treated harshly by the police. This event was known as the Clichy affair. It acted as a catalyst, or a spark, for his next steps. He decided to fight back against the judges involved in these cases.

On March 11, 1892, they bombed a building in Saint-Germain. They wanted to target a specific judge. The bomb did not kill anyone, but it did hurt one person. Shortly after, the police caught Ravachol.

He took full blame for the bombs to protect his friends.

Ravachol's death changed how people thought about political fighting. He was sentenced to death and died in July 1892. Because he protected his friends, many people saw him as a martyr. A martyr is someone who suffers for their beliefs. He changed the way attacks were made by targeting places rather than just people. Today, he is still seen in art and songs. He has become a famous figure in French culture and history.
