The Rapture is a belief held by some Christians. They believe it is an end-times event. In this event, dead believers will rise again. They will join living believers in the clouds. Together, they will meet the Lord in the air.

The word comes from a Greek word. It means to snatch away or seize. Many people have different ideas about when this happens. Some think it occurs before a hard time called the Tribulation. Others think it happens during or after that time.

Some groups see this as one single event. Others see it as two separate events. They may see the Rapture and the Second Coming as different. These views often link to ideas about a thousand-year rule on Earth. This is called Millennialism.
