Randy Johnson was a legendary baseball pitcher known as "the Big Unit."

He was a massive presence on the mound. When he first joined the major leagues, he was the tallest player in history. This height helped him create an intimidating persona for hitters. He was famous for using a powerful fastball and a sharp slider. The slider is a pitch that moves sideways as it approaches the plate. This combination of speed and movement made him one of the most dominant players of his era.

His pitching style required great skill and control. In his early years, Johnson often struggled to throw the ball exactly where he wanted. He frequently gave up many walks to opposing players. However, he learned to fix his delivery after meeting legendary pitcher Nolan Ryan. Ryan suggested that Johnson land on the ball of his foot instead of his heel. This small change helped him find the strike zone much more often. Once he mastered his control, he became a strikeout machine. He led his league in strikeouts nine different times during his career.

On May 18, 2004, he threw a perfect game at the age of 40. This made him the oldest pitcher to ever throw a perfect game. Because of his greatness, he was elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame in 2015. Two different teams, the Diamondbacks and the Mariners, retired his number 51. This is a rare honor that shows how much fans respect him.
