People called him "the Big Unit." He was very tall. He was the tallest player in the league when he started. This helped him look scary to hitters.

He used a fast ball and a slider. A slider is a pitch that moves sideways. He was very good at striking out players. He did this 4,875 times in his career. That is second most in history.

He played for many teams. He played most for the Seattle Mariners and the Arizona Diamondbacks. In 2001, he helped the Diamondbacks win the World Series. He was named the most valuable player for that series. He won five Cy Young Awards. These are big prizes for the best pitchers. He also threw a perfect game in 2004. This means no other player got a hit. He is now in the Baseball Hall of Fame. His number 51 is retired by two teams. This shows how much people respect him.
