He was a starting pitcher known for being very dominant on the mound. Even though he was unusually small for a power pitcher, he became a legend. He won three Cy Young Awards, which are given to the best pitchers.

He also won the Pitching Triple Crown in 1999. This means he led his league in several major categories at once. People remember him for his incredible skill and his ability to win.

To become a great pitcher, Pedro had to learn many special ways to throw. In the minor leagues, a coach helped him learn a circle changeup. This is a pitch that looks fast but moves differently. Later, while playing for the Montreal Expos, his manager helped him change his grip on the fastball. He moved from a two-seam grip to a four-seam grip. This change gave him much better control and a better break on the ball.

These small adjustments helped him overwhelm the best hitters in the game.

Pedro's journey began in the Dominican Republic in a small suburb called Manoguayabo.

He was the fifth of six children living in a house with a tin roof. His family did not have much money when he was young. He even used oranges to practice his pitches because he could not afford baseballs. His older brother, Ramón, was already a pitcher for the Dodgers. Pedro worked as a mechanic before he moved into professional baseball. He started his professional career in the Dominican Winter League.

His career included many amazing numbers and records.

He played for teams like the Dodgers, the Expos, and the Boston Red Sox. In 1999, he had a record-breaking season with 313 strikeouts. He also had a very low ERA, which is a way to measure how many runs a pitcher gives up. He is the only pitcher other than Max Scherzer to have over 3,000 strikeouts with fewer than 3,000 innings pitched. In 2004, he helped the Red Sox win their first World Series title in 86 years.

Today, we can see how important Pedro was by looking at his honors. He was elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame in 2015. This is a very special place for the best players in history. The Red Sox also retired his number, 45, in a big ceremony.
