Raichand Boral was a very important music maker from India.

Many experts call him the "Bhishma Pitamah" of film music. This special name means he is like a great father to movie songs. He helped change how people hear stories on screen. His work helped shape the sound of movies for many years. He was a pioneer who led the way for others. People still look back at his skill and his many ideas.

Boral learned music in a very special way.

His father, Lal Chand Boral, was an expert in classical music. Because of this, Rai Chand studied with many great teachers. He learned from Ustad Mushtaq Hussain Khan and a tabla player named Masit Khan. He also studied with a sarod player named Ustad Hafiz Ali Khan. He even traveled to places like Lucknow and Benares for music conferences. These lessons helped him understand many different sounds and styles.

As he grew up, Boral began to change the world of movies.

He worked at a famous place called New Theatres. He worked there with another musician named Pankaj Mullick. Together, they set high standards for how film music should sound. In 1935, Boral did something very new called playback singing.

This happened in the movie Dhoop Chhaon. It meant that singers recorded songs for the actors to use. This was a huge step for Indian cinema.

Boral was a very busy and productive composer.

He directed the music for about 70 to 75 different films. These movies were made in both Hindi and Bengali languages. Some of his famous movies include Anjangarh and Dard-e-Dil. He even helped a singer named Saigal start a great career. He worked on many different types of songs and styles. His music helped bring new life to the movies of his time.

Because he was so talented, the Indian government gave him great honors.

In 1978, he received the Dadasaheb Phalke Award. This is the highest prize someone can win in Indian cinema. That same year, he also won the Sangeet Natak Akademi award. This award is for the best artists in music, dance, and drama. These prizes showed everyone how much his work mattered. He lived to be 78 years old and left a great legacy.
